The Nail Challenge Collaborative presents: Books - Sartan Runes

Hi all!

This months theme is all about books. We can do mani's inspired by book covers, books in general or whatever we want. Even though I love this theme, it took me a while to decide what to do for my first mani. I knew I wanted to do a mani inspired by The Death Gate Cycle written by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. This fantasy novel series consists of 7 books that I read a long time ago, but absolutely loved. The story is rather complicated, so I'll not delve into that here, but the writers created several intricate worlds in their books with a lot of different races. There are two main human like races, the Sartan and the Patryn. Both use magic through runes. The main character is Haplo, he is a Patryn and is covered by runes. I thought it would be nice to do a mani with those runes. Patryn runes however are never pictured in the books and consist of octagons and squares intertwined. Sartan runes are pictured in one of the appendices of the books and are hexagon shaped. So I went with Sartan runes instead, because having an example to work from is so much easier.

Today's polishes:
  • OPI - NL A60 Don't Bossa Nova Me Around
  • Essence - LE Love Letters - 05 Inkheart

I'm wearing Don't Bossa Nova Me Around as a base, 2 easy coats. On my thumb, middle and ring finger I painted the runes with Inkheart and a thin nail art brush. The runes are not very uniform in size, but I really don't mind. When it dried I sealed them in with a coat of G&G HK Girl top coat. My index and little finger got a single hexagon stud I bought off eBay. These were also sealed in with top coat.

I'm very glad I decided to go with an inky blue instead of black, as I feel it suits Don't Bossa Nova better. And you can pretend it's ink on parchment *nods*.

If you're into fantasy literature, I highly recommend reading this series! And even if you're not, these nails do look interesting for you to look at *winks*

More books mani's down here!
